Writer and published novellist
CHARLOTTE WALTERS
ABOUT CHARLOTTE
Hello! I am Charlotte Walters, novelist and writer from beautiful Shropshire in the United Kingdom. Since the publication of my debut novel - Barefoot on Baker Street - my writing life has been a whirlwind of experiences. Whether it's linking up with fans from all around the world, being invited onto podcasts, taking part in live debates, giving press interviews or talks at book clubs, each experience has been a joy - and helped me to grow so much as a writer. Not forgetting the follow up publications - a second edition for Barefoot (click here to go to my Barefoot blog), my short story collection, popular blogging series 56 Stories in 56 Days and, most recently, my work featuring in 'Villains, Victims and Violets' published by Brown Walker Press and nominated for The Ralph Waldo Emerson Award.

I love to write, I was that child for whom school was an inconvenience that got in the way of writing. I was the adult sitting on a busy commuter train tapping away on my laptop writing scenes for a new novel - immersing myself so completely in my fictional world that I'd end up missing my stop. I don't remember a time when there wasn't a novel, screenplay, short story or article on the go.

I am also an avid reader. As a teenager, it was escaping to the foggy gaslit streets of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's London which helped me get through the stress of GCSEs. As an adult, I returned to those pages for inspiration and Barefoot was born. More recently, my writing has drawn inspiration from a diverse range of loves - from countryside and farming to the crime novels of Ann Cleeves and Stuart MacBride. Not forgetting my friend's adorable (but rather overweight) Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who has inspired a character in my latest project, a cosy crime caper.

Starting out as a jobbing actor, fresh from university, I did everything from dressing up as Snoopy, to voice-overs, corporate training films and got arrested on BBC's Dalziel and Pascoe. But it was writing which proved to be my true love (sulky face from Husband) and a passion which stayed with me long after my Equity card expired.

Barefoot has proved popular with readers throughout the world being sold everywhere from Waterstones in the UK to the Mysterious Bookshop in New York. I write because I am a storyteller, and being able to share those stories with the world is my absolute favourite thing (another sulk from Husband!)

I live in the beautiful Shropshire countryside with my husband Tim (who's not really sulky and is actually a jolly good egg), a journalist turned communications manager. When I'm not writing, I love nothing more than ambling around a farmers’ market or walking in the rolling Shropshire hills.

So that's me and my crazy, fun and sometimes bonkers writing world. Use the links to find out more about my publications to date, and to follow me on social media. Thanks for stopping by!
